Reflections Continued - 2009-2010 By Thelma Parks
The year 2009 was a year of transition, many changes, some good, others which took a lot of thought, discussion and prayer. As noted previously The Reverend Bertha E. Williams was sent to Bethel as pastor after the 2009 NJ Annual Conference, and is the first female pastor to serve at Bethel. A strong example of faith, social, and spiritual. Her philosophy is always to be involved and strongly believes in the power of prayer. As we look to the future, with God's help, we are expecting great things to happen at Bethel.
Her spouse, Evangelist Freddie Williams has also been active in Bethel. He is the advisor to the missionary society, the chairperson of Men's Day, Evangelist service, chairperson of our 2010 Church Anniversary.
Our goal for this year is to raise money to renovate the church basement which is badly in need of repair, and make improvements at the parsonage. We are very pleased and happy to have Brother Charles Jennings playing the organ for the choir. He is following in the footsteps of his father Brother Donald Jennings who played the organ and was the musical director for Bethel for seventy two years, who passed on to glory in June 2011. One of our oldest and beloved members. Also, Sister Mable Sample, our church mother went home to be with the Lord in November 2010, at age 103. We also are praying that whatever the future holds, that Bethel will remain the same strong and outstanding part of the community of Pennington it has always been.
